Comings and Goings: Apple Hires Exec Away From Tag Heuer

The cold hard truth is that in today’s gadget world, it’s not enough to offer up a device that stands out from the crowd. These days, said device must also have a real “cool” factor. The cool factor is the reason Google (News - Alert) went out and hired Ivy Ross to helm its Google Glass division. The cool factor is also why Apple (News - Alert) has hired the former head of sales from Tag Heuer just ahead of the expected iWatch launch.

Patrick Pruniaux was confirmed as having left the luxury accessory maker late last week. His new role has not been confirmed but considering the company the executive departed from, it seems to be a safe bet that he will be taking on a similar position at Apple. The fire that Apple is coming very close to announcing the new product had been fanned after reports that the Cupertino company had also hired away an LVMH watch brands executive, according to sales director Jean-Claude Biver.

Biver said he didn’t hold any ill will about the hire because the exec hadn’t gone to a rival company. Biver said that the former employee had a great opportunity in going to Apple and that he would have felt differently if the worker had left for another watch company.

While Apple has never officially confirmed such a device as the iWatch is coming down the pike, almost everyone in the industry believes it exists and that the iWatch will be officially unveiled early this fall. Some reports say Apple will go the same route it has started to go with its iPad and iPhone (News - Alert) line in the fact there will be a number of different styles offered up.

Apple, a company usually leading the field when it comes to new gadgets is actually coming a little late to the party in regards to wearable tech. With the late arrival in mind, some expect Tim Cook and company to work hard to hit the launch out of the park when the launch finally comes.
