For over six decades, Safeguard Scientifics, Inc. has been providing venture capital, along with operational support for companies that are on the move. The latest company to benefit is WebLinc. This is a commerce platform provider for online retailers that has only been around for a couple of years. WebLinc needed the Series A funding to be able to go up against the big boys and Safeguard was there to help.


Jetpac Inc. is a San Francisco-based software developer that analyzes digital pictures. Its goal is to organize the world’s information and deliver it alongside advertisements on desktops and mobile phones. The startup company which launched in 2012 has just been purchased by Google (News - Alert). Jetpac is known for creating what it calls City Guides for travelers. This includes items such as which bars have the most women (or men), or which beaches have the best views.

Syniverse (News - Alert) is a global company that provides technology and business services for the telecommunications industry, which make it possible for dissimilar technologies and standards to interoperate. This allows operators in the mobile industry to provide their subscribers with access to voice calls, data and other services as users move across networks around the world. Myriad Group is a French/Swiss software company in the mobile phone sector. This week the two companies signed a multi-year agreement.

Salesforce.com (News - Alert) Inc. is a global cloud computing company. Although it is best known for its customer relationship management product, Salesforce has also expanded into the "social enterprise arena" through acquisitions. This makes it a formidable opponent in the CRM world. That is why Infor, a company that specializes in enterprise software, has acquired Saleslogix. By offering more industry specific versions of the Saleslogix solution, Infor hopes to be a strong contender.

You may recall that back in July, Curtis Jackson, better known as 50 Cent, launched SMS Audio with the Audio Sport Collection of headphones. This week we are seeing another partnership, Intel has joined forces with SMS Audio to create a new set of ear buds. The new ear buds do more than just let you listen to music or your favorite sport, the BioSport also has the ability to gather fitness data.
