Presence Technology Tapped as Digium Open Source Solutions Partner
January 13, 2009
As part of its mission to expand its partner universe and increase the number of value added applications available for their Asterisk (News - Alert) Business Edition, Huntsville, Alabama-based Digium, the creators of the open source telephony software Asterisk are always looking to innovative companies.
Today Digium (News - Alert) has announced the addition of Barcelona-based Presence Technology to its portfolio of so-called Solutions Partners.
Digium has a multi-tiered partnership program that features partners who interface with Digium at different levels. For example there are Interoperability Partners, which manufacture standalone products that interface with Asterisk through a standards-based interface such as SIP; Software Partners whose products or services interface to standard (unmodified) Asterisk and Asterisk Business Edition using pre-defined software interfaces, such as the Asterisk Manager Interface (AMI), Asterisk Gateway (News - Alert) Interface (AGI) and others, Training Providers, who offer classes and related training services for Asterisk; and Service Providers who market telephony services for use with Asterisk, such as SIP trunking, IAX trunking, PSTN, or other telephony services.
Solutions Partners build “whole products” which incorporate Asterisk as an integral part of the product. These offerings may be targeted at specific vertical industries, niche markets, or special applications.
For its part, Presence Technology has developed OpenGate, a complete contact center solution based on Asterisk Business Edition.
According to Jim Webster, director of technology partnerships for Digium, “We’re excited to partner with Presence because its OpenGate solution leverages the power and cost-effectiveness of Asterisk to enable highly sophisticated customer service centers, help desks and inside sales teams.”
The Presence OpenGate product works with customers’ existing PBX systems or as a standalone ACD solution. Benefits include substantial productivity gains, agent and customer satisfaction, and easy implementation and management.
Presence OpenGate can serve as a gateway between the contact center and the PSTN via T1/E1 interfaces or SIP trunks for VoIP. Last month, Presence announced the latest revision of its solution, version 7.
According to the announcement, version 7 features included improved scalability and integration capabilities. To the point, the solution’s n+1 architecture is designed to allow many Asterisk servers to be governed by a Master and act as a single device, yielding scalability on a much larger scale than previous versions.
According to Presence founder José Luis Castaños, “This partnership between Presence Technology and Digium expands the available applications for the open source communications community.
“Most importantly, especially in these tough global economic times, it allows customers to enjoy the productivity improvements and benefits of integrated contact center software regardless of their current telecommunications environment,” Castaños said.
Presence is a Silver Sponsor of the upcoming Digium|Asterisk World, which is scheduled for February 2–4, 2009. The event is collocated with ITEXPO (News - Alert) and will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach, Florida.
Castaños will present a session titled, “Strategic Planning: Why IP in the Contact Center?” at the event on February, 3rd.
