Network Norway Manages Mobile Data Traffic

In 2014, video will make up 66 percent of all mobile data traffic, according to Cisco's Visual Network Index report from February 2010. In addition, the migration of high-quality video content to mobile devices will continue to grow. With this there will be an increase in mobile data traffic.

In an effort to manage current and future surge in mobile data traffic, Network Norway, a mobile operator in Norway, has implemented Flash Networks' Harmony Video Optimization. Network Norway expanded its Harmony installation with the addition of Flash Networks' (News - Alert) Harmony Video Optimization.

Flash Networks is a provider of intelligent mobile Internet solutions. The company currently has 450.000 subscribers, including the private market brands Lebara and One Call. Flash Networks’ intelligent mobile Internet solutions facilitate operators to improve quality of experience, reduce network operational expenses and manage and monetize the mobile Internet.

According to Flash Networks, its Video Optimization facilitates operators to meet the growing demand for data by sitting at the heart of the network, inspecting, identifying, and then optimizing video traffic.

The Video Optimization is part of the Harmony Mobile Internet Services Gateway (News - Alert), which enables operators to enhance user quality of experience, reduce operational expenses, and manage and monetize access to the open Internet by applying best-in-class services to mobile data traffic.

In addition, the Video Optimization provides faster, smoother user experience for mobile subscribers. It performs optimization based on various parameters, such as date and time, network congestion, and subscriber information. It provides smoother and faster browsing while reducing network load to free up capacity. It also reduces CAPEX investment for network expansions.

Officials with Flash Networks said that the company’s Video Optimization has the lowest footprint in the market due to highly efficient transcoders and unique system architecture. It is up to five times more cost-effective than competitive solutions.

According to a press release, Video Optimization complements Flash Networks' Web Optimization that is already installed at Network Norway.

"Increasing video traffic is driving up network costs drastically," said Tor Anders Braun, head of VAS and core networks at Network Norway. "Flash Networks' Web Optimization has already succeeded in boosting data speeds in our network, so it was only natural to add video optimization to further increase our data traffic efficiency, enabling us to lower costs while increasing subscriber satisfaction."

Liam Galin, president and CEO of Flash Networks, said, "We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with Network Norway, providing them with video optimization technologies that will enable them to maximize this revenue opportunity by better managing their data growth."

Flash Networks' Internet services gateway helps operators achieve significant cost savings through intelligent data traffic optimization, and applies intelligent policies for targeted marketing and charging.
