Smarsh specializing in managed services announced the release of version 2.0 of smarshEncrypt, its hosted secure messaging platform. The new upgrades to the email encryption system allow users to deliver messages and files securely and communicate confidentially within smarshEncrypt’s secure cloud. Smarsh provides innovative and reliable email archiving and compliance solutions.

Smarsh’s proprietary data-leak prevention engine known as smarshDLP helps administrators to make corporate usage policies and also enforce encrypted transmission of email and files according to certain criteria. Delivery via smarshEncrypt can be initiated if there is email for specific recipients or if messages are with specific content in the body or attachments. Encrypted delivery can also be manually triggered by the sender, clarified Smarsh sources.

Message recipients will also be notified of the secure transmission who have to follow some instructions to access the smarshEncrypt secure cloud. Within seconds, the sender and the recipients can confidentially and securely read and reply to messages sent on the platform.

This method is most suitable for exchange of intellectual property, sensitive client financial information or private health information in accordance with the emerging state and federal data protection and data breach mandates and regulations, said Smarsh sources.

All the data of an organization including notifications can be customized using the Smarsh solution which helps build branding efforts and trust as it greatly ensures client data security.

smarshEncrypt will be deployed as a SaaS (News - Alert) model and it reduces burden on email servers as both secure messages and attached files will reside in the secure cloud and not in the email server. smarshEncrypt can be used as a dedicated secure file transfer system and eliminates problems associated with file-size limitations. Also email-related storage and network bandwidth requirement is reduced cost effectively.

The service can integrate seamlessly with Smarsh’s hosted email archiving and compliance solutions. The archiving infrastructure allows tracking of the entire lifecycle of an email starting from original “pre-encrypted” message to the audit trail attached to each message.

The Web-based Smarsh Management Console is a consolidated administration destination for multiple functions. Users need not log into separate applications for accessing encryption controls, quarantined pre-review messages or the email supervision system.

Smarsh explained that for accessing the Web-based system no hardware or software or plug-ins are required, neither are there any certificate or key exchanges to access secure messages. The smarshEncrypt platform works with any email client, email system (including CRMs) or operating system, and also the service is compatible with all mobile messaging devices, including the BlackBerry (News - Alert) and the iPhone.
