Public sector cloud-based communication solutions provider, GovDelivery, recently obtained Impact Level 2 (IL2) security accreditation as part of its G-Cloud program.

This accreditation makes GovDelivery the only IL2-accredited G-Cloud provider currently offering digital communications management, e-alerts and e-newsletters. It also signifies that the solutions provider is now qualified to store and communicate data securely up to the U.K. government’s IL2 classification.

For those unaware, the IL reflects the confidentiality of information managed in the service. Also popularly known as PROTECT, it includes personal information. Generally, the cabinet office and Communications-Electronics Security Group (CESG) define the Impact Levels.

CESG is the national technical authority for information assurance for the U.K. government.

The G-Cloud, on the flipside, is the U.K. government’s iterative program of work focused on achieving fundamental changes in the way the public sector procures and operates information and communication, while adopting the cloud technology.

The IL2 rating will benefit various U.K. public sector organizations, including local and regional government, NHS trusts and some central government bodies, which require a ‘protect’ level of security for data processing, storage and transmission.

A recent statement cited that GovDelivery’s IL2 accreditation signifies that GovDelivery has met specific security requirements for handling U.K. citizen data and that U.K. public sector organizations can now be confident while availing GovDelivery’s services.

Currently, over a thousand government entities, including more than half of major U.S. federal agencies, as well as state, county and city governments in the U.S., and local authorities and central government agencies in the U.K., use GovDelivery solutions to optimize their effectiveness, efficiency and engagement in communications with the public.

The IL2 accreditation builds upon the ISO 27001 certification, which GovDelivery obtained earlier this year, and entailed a review of the company's defenses by CESG.

Dave Worsell, director of government solutions for GovDelivery U.K., said in a statement, "With a deep appreciation for the security standards required by the G-Cloud programme, achieving IL2 accreditation demonstrates how seriously we take our partnerships with our many public sector clients."

Worsell added, "As the only CloudStore provider of Digital Communication Management and Transactional Messaging solutions, we are singularly focused on helping the public sector improve government-to-citizen interactions within a highly secure environment. Achieving IL2 accreditation allows GovDelivery to better serve UK public sector organizations and citizens."

According to GovDelivery, this new status follows only a year after the company was accepted into the U.K. government's landmark G-Cloud program and weeks after the addition of the company's transactional messaging service (TMS) solution to G-Cloud III.
