NTT (News - Alert) Communications, the largest telecommunications company in the world and headquartered in Japan, recently announced that it has partnered with Microsoft Japan to launch a new unified communications cloud service in its home country.

The launch of Arcstar UCaaS Microsoft (News - Alert) Type will take place on April 13. The new product will begin with the Arcstar Universal One virtual private network platform and will leverage Microsoft Lync for its communications capabilities.

This announcement comes among a line of expansions of the Arcstar line of products. NTT Com offers similar products in 159 other countries throughout the world and continues to widen that base with partnerships like the one mentioned here with Microsoft. Although the initial launch of Microsoft Type will take place in Japan, NTT Com says it has plans to offer the UCaaS platform to additional markets in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America regions.

NTT Com is riding on the security of its VPN for delivery of Microsoft-based communications tools. For voice, video, instant messaging, conferencing, and presence features, among many others, customers will be able to control their own setups from remote locations and will have to make no investment in on-premise servers. All calls for client companies will be centralized through the Microsoft Type system including local and international calls.

The communications platform also comes with a host of support services such as pre-installation consulting, custom system design, migration from legacy systems (if necessary), and post-installation support and maintenance. The platform is meant to integrate with other Microsoft products as well. If clients prefer to use Exchange or Office 365, for example, they can rest assured that all those products from the manufacturer will continue to work together as designed. This type of communications setup could also spur companies without current use of other Microsoft products to make the switch in order to take advantage of that interoperability.
