Guyana is a very little-known country that doesn't often make headlines, let alone those of technology publications. Those who know about the country think of it as a major center for agriculture and gold mining. As a consequence, it may come as a surprise that Guyana – a country with just under 760,000 inhabitants – may see plenty of potential for growth in outsourcing. The news comes from a report by Nearshore Americas, a news organization known for its coverage of the outsourcing industry.
The report states that Qualfon, a major provider of business process outsourcing services, is in the process of building one of the biggest contact centers in the world at Georgetown, Guyana's capital. We must also note the fact that for a very long time, the top of South America has presented a greatly hidden opportunity for outsourcing endeavors.
But why Guyana? Perhaps it's the fact that the country's official language is English. This alone makes it a very attractive destination for companies wishing to provide outsourcing services.
Bob Dechant, CMO of Qualfon, said, “Many large U.S. companies are currently reconfiguring their outsourcing operations and looking for competitively priced locations to replace or augment their current global footprint. Guyana offers high-quality services in native English at prices that match or beat India and the Philippines, and this report offers a thorough overview of Guyana as an outstanding emerging market. We at Qualfon are extremely bullish on Guyana.”
Given the economic climate of the developed world, the real winners of tomorrow will be countries that have competitive prices and a regulatory environment that is favorable for business development. At this point, perhaps it is time for developed nations to learn a thing or two from those who are aspiring to create better futures for their citizens by letting them innovate and advance their careers.
