Cartridge World Inks NetSuite to Fill Integration Role

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Cartridge World refills empty ink cartridges and remanufactures empty toner cartridges for inkjet printers, laser printers, fax machines, and photocopiers. Hey it's not the sexiest business but it's solid -- the company has more than 500 locations in the United States, with another 300 locations expected soon -- 1,650 total locations including overseas.

The company had been using QuickBooks for accounting, and managed sales to franchise locations through an non-integrated third-party product. 'This, coupled with a non-integrated Web store and manual processes in fulfillment, created the potential for costly data entry errors,' company officials now admit.

So they integrated NetSuite into their worldwide operations to help oversee the hundreds of franchise locations. At first they treated Cartridge World as primarily an inventory control tool, not using its integrated accounting and customer tracking capabilities.

'We had experience with NetSuite (News - Alert) in the past, although personally I wasn't involved in the decision to bring NetSuite into Cartridge World,' said Steven L. Yeffa, President Cartridge World Americas, in a customer case study posted on NetSuite’s Web site.

They chose NetSuite, Cartridge World officials say, for its integrated CRM, ERP and e-commerce. The business-to-business capabilities of NetSuite let the company's network of more than 700 North American franchise stores purchase products from Cartridge World via a NetSuite Web store. Corporate headquarters uses NetSuite to market and communicate with far-flung franchisees as well as to track support issues -- 'questions on everything from invoices to how to refill cartridges,' company officials say.

Since then Cartridge World has rolled up its disparate databases into the internal NetSuite B2B e-commerce system, and now operates replenishment for franchise locations through the integrated Web store. The Australian operations have converted to NetSuite for region control, with Europe slated to go live on NetSuite as well.

New regions and stores can come online without all the capital commitments or expensive re-engineering fees, company officials say, adding that NetSuite also 'provides real-time information and key metrics throughout a global organization.'
