Rehan Ahmed of Super Technologies, Inc., Talks About DID, DDI and More

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

I recently had the opportunity to ask Rehan Ahmed, president of Super Technologies, Inc., provider of DIDX, about the evolution of the Direct Inward Dialing (DID) and DDI and how they are used with customers' PBX (News - Alert) systems.

DIDX is a registered and patented service of Super Technologies, Inc. In 2005, with the launch of the company’s many international services, Super Technologies, Inc. saw the need for an international provider or exchange of DID numbers. There was none. Thus, DIDX was created.
Please outline your new corporate initiatives.
Super Technologies, Inc. goals include enhancing wholesale IP communications services such as hosted white label CFMS (Call Forward Management System) and voIP in and out businesses, DIDX (direct inward dialing marketplace for wholesale), and other services listed at to empower the entrepreneurial and the traditional businesses. It plans to facilitate a special nonprofit foundation whose goal will be to add necessary technologies for entities that entitle more individuals with affordable and/or free Internet access.

How is the Direct Inward Dialing space evolving?
There is a place for private peering and a place for public peering of DID. Both can offer effective QoS measures and unique value-added features. The formation of online marketplaces such as DIDX (also known as DIDXchange (News - Alert)) for the buying and/or selling and trading of direct inward dialing phone numbers assist IP communications startups to grow in even the remotest global areas while enabling DID/DDI vendors to sell and not have huge useless unsold phone numbers database. Before 2000, when Virtualphoneline was invented, the voip service to buy/sell was termination, but the local DID/DDI from any country on the globe is now the new sweet spot. The space evolves to meet the needs of everyone from the traditional ILECs to the web 2.0s.
What pains does your company solve for customers?

Effective marketing, signup, sales, billing, reports, testing and more for 10,000+ wired and wireless carriers who wish to sell direct inward dialing to other wholesale companies all with one interop and interconnect. In turn, the same who wish to buy DID/DDI from local and global areas, 55+ countries receive instant provisioning, reports, testing, and customer service upon buying DID via API or manually.

Who would benefit from using DID and DDI numbers?
Competitive, incumbent, and independent local exchange carriers both wired and wireless and domestic as well as international; all ITSPs and many social community networking, and web 2.0s. Their billions of end-users will relish having a local presence in just about any location on the globe, cutting costs of physical office locations, staying in touch with loved ones and business partners and customers. Those individuals and companies can make a call to a local phone number and it can conveniently ring on the end-user’s favorite instant messenger, soft phone, IP hard phone, or landline or cellular phone.
Take an example of a non-profit organization in the United States who would like for individuals and businesses to quickly make a free call to a DID (phone number local to them) that will ring on the non-profit’s choice of ringto to get more information about donating or receiving help. Instead of dialing the long distance international USA number or having to log on to the Internet to send email, they can call the DID (local phone number). The nonprofit drives more interest in its projects. The end-user is able to quickly build trust by the phone call and donate or receive help at practically zero cost. Every wholesale ITSP needs to have access to local phone numbers around the globe to satisfy billions of road warriors, expats, local businesses going global, and more.

How do you think the future of the market looks?
The DID/DDI (direct inward dialing phone number) is one of the most important pieces of anyone’s identity along with perhaps the email address. Services, products, equipment and more are tied into this technology: the phone number. Entities are searching for ways to cut cost, build revenue, expand markets, and please the ever increasingly mobile end-user who wishes to be globally connected. A local DID/DDI quickly and affordably delivers.
