Voxofon issued an industry forecast for 2014 predicting major changes to the telecom ecosystem. As per the report, Voxofon expects to see an increased penetration of connected devices into the human lifestyle leading to a stupendous growth in demand for specialized over-the-top (OTT) services. The report also predicts that the global telecommunications environment will see a huge fragmentation horizontally; requiring service providers to develop new services and to seek different sources to generate revenues.
In a release, Alexey Goloshubin (News - Alert), Chief Executive Officer of Voxofon, said “On the surface, the hyper-specialization of apps might seem counter-intuitive in an era of device consolidation, but highly specialized apps enable users to outfit their connected devices with the specific set of functionalities they want, which is what makes device consolidation practical. In 2014, the view of the device as an electronic version of the Swiss Army Knife will take hold, with each app serving a single specific purpose. Users will gravitate to those apps that do the one thing they want better than any other, and they will quickly switch when their needs change or something better comes along.”
The report predicts that smart devices are expected to increasingly become a part of the human lifestyle leading to new innovations of OTT apps and services for compatibility with the wearable devices such as smartglasses and smartwatches. The demand for specialized OTT communication apps is to witness a huge demand with social networking and new communication technologies seeing viral adoption.
The market is expected to become increasingly competitive with the ability to launch new tools being the only driver for success. The growth drivers for the industry in 2014 is that the service providers will enhance their offerings to support various smart devices, roll-out data-only plans and launch OTT services that support the existing as well as the future models.
Any checks and balances by government agencies or big players in the industry to restrict the speed of innovation and penetration of OTT services are bound to see a setback, with more and more people wanted to stay connected all the time. The report predicts a tremendous growth for Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging apps within the OTT space with the growing need for connected devices to interact with the world around us, thus redefining the human lifestyle.
Voxofon is engaged in providing OTT messaging and voice solutions that are compatible with Android (News - Alert), Blackberry, iOS and Windows devices to provide low-cost calling and messaging services to users irrespective of the geographical location.
