Zhone Technologies (News - Alert) announced the launch of two new Fibers to the Home (FTTH) gateways, zNID 4200 Series Outdoor Multimedia Gateway and zNID 1100 Series Indoor WiFi (News - Alert) Gateway. The zNIDTM multimedia outdoor gateway provides layer-three intelligence and Quality of Service (QoS) features for GPON

to point to point Ethernet installations. The zNID indoor gateway is designed for high performance WiFi networks.
Zhone Technologies, Inc. is a provider of advanced access network equipment. The company offers fully-integrated access solutions, enabling the full range of multi-play services, including residential and business broadband, VoIP

, IPTV (News - Alert), and Ethernet.
Zhone’s new FTTH gateways, zNIDTM multimedia outdoor gateway and zNID indoor gateway, offers end-to-end integration with Zhone’s IEEE (News - Alert) standard Active Ethernet (AE) line card MALCTM Multi-Service Access Platform (MSAP).
“Zhone continues to be an innovator in the next-generation access sector, this time bringing advanced management capabilities to FTTH networks, for both Active Ethernet and GPON,” said Erik M. Keith, senior analyst for broadband infrastructure at Current Analysis (News - Alert), in the press release, “Reducing truck rolls while maximizing remote control and management of FTTH subscribers’ home networks enables operators to deliver higher QoS and Quality of Experience (QoE) capabilities, thereby enhancing overall service differentiation, which can create an important, even critical competitive advantage.”
Zhone’s zNID 4200 Series Outdoor Multimedia Gateway was designed mainly for easy installation and management of advanced media and home networking services which supports dual wiring and thereby provides complete home coverage with no new wiring. It has intuitive end-user interfaces and value added networking features with VoIP, Ethernet and IPTV via standard coax and/or phone line and also supports POTs and IPTV. It also supports SIP for intelligent VoIP call processing. The single system solution includes a firewall security.
Zhone’s zNID 1100 Series plug and play indoor WiFi gateway supports Wi-Fi

Multimedia (WMM) QoS standard and provides advanced voice quality features for VoIP. It operates in bridged and router mode providing, 54 Mbps WiFi coverage and 100 Mbps total bandwidth for all voice and data. It is ideal for multi tenant unit (MTU) installations.
Zhone’s zNID 1100 Series Indoor WiFi Gateway which operates in bridged or router mode has integrated 4-Port 10/100Base-T Ethernet Bridge, 2 VoIP ports with advanced call QoS features and also integrated with failsafe. It is mainly used for call forwarding, call waiting, call transfer, caller ID and 3-way conferencing.
Zhone’s zNID product family offers carries with IEEE 802.ah interoperability standard which gives ease-of-use features for service providers and consumers.
Zhone’s MSAP network plan provides operators with complete set of choices to access technologies for delivering new services such as point-to-point AE, GPON, and bonded copper pairs.
With Zhone’s MSAP network plan, next generation of applications such as multiple HD streams, supersensory gaming can be made with future-proofing of infrastructure by network planners.
Integrating home networks effectively has become a challenge for carriers, where home networks are largely isolated from other network, thereby hindering advanced management capabilities and visibility to network operators.
With Zhone’s zNID, carriers can bring remote intelligence to the subscriber site and provide differentiated new services like home video security and anywhere access to electronic command centers, while at home via secured/password protected virtual private networks (VPNs). This will help in reducing provisioning and management costs and also improve customer features and Quality of Experience (QoE).
“End to end system performance and superior management integration were deciding factors in SRT’s selection of Zhone as the primary access vendor for our Active Ethernet build,” said Shawn Grosz, director of network technology for SRT Communications, in the press release, “Attitude was another factor. Zhone consistently takes an active partnership role in the success and performance of our network and our business.”
SRT now uses MALC platform to provide FTTH to rural locations and ADSL to the metro through an extensive copper network. This reduces the biasing digital divide between metro customers and rural customers in the region.
Zhone’s zNID for GPON manages service changes and upgrades remotely via Zhone’s TR-069 automatic configuration server, which is the same standard used in DSL

. It also provides a flexible deployment options with standard coaxial cable or ordinary twisted pair copper, which are used widely for home networks. With this coverage becomes as easy and seamless as electricity, with standard jacks installed wherever required, enabling 100+ Mbps network speed.
“Bringing a high degree of manageability to subscriber networks enables operators to provide more service differentiation to their customers at lower cost,” said Steven Glapa, vice president of marketing and product management for Zhone, in the press release, “Beyond management and increased functionality, there is a clear economic advantage to working with well-integrated end-to-end platforms.”
