With most of the hottest news from the technology world surrounding “exciting” things such as iPhones, cable TV cord-cutting, social media, and other such topics, we lose sight of the applicable, every-day technologies. No one would call fax technology “sexy,” but it certainly is not to be discarded as “outdated” or “antiquated.” A recent article by a U.K.-based writer actually declared the opposite: Fax is still very much in use, and by many small- and medium-sized businesses.
Although, Commetrex (News - Alert) could have told you that. The company makes a point of being on the up-and-up with what’s happening in the fax world, including developing its own innovations to solve certain challenges brought to market.
Its Smart ATA solution solves some of the problems that the fax industry faces such as the “T.38 reinvite problem,” according to Mike Coffee, CEO, Commetrex. Fax providers are getting on the modern trains just like everyone else with developments such as Smart Fax, fax-over-IP (FoIP), etc., and Commetrex’s Smart ATA solution does just that by making “every multipage fax look like a one-page fax.”
The U.K.-based writer noted that fax machines are still used by four out of 10 small- to medium-sized businesses, according to a survey commissioned by Intel (News
- Alert), which polled 3,000 SMBs with fewer than 250 employees each.
“However, 42 percent of those polled said they use their own devices for work, although Intel warned that only a third of businesses were aware of legislation regarding data privacy and security,” continued the author.
SMBs have different agendas than larger businesses, and many do not have the time to spend understanding intricate communications technologies, which is why providers need to do it for them. As TMC’s (News - Alert) Susan Campbell recently wrote, Commetrex is one such business. “Commetrex is addressing the problems in the fax world that service providers continue to beg to be fixed. As a full function voice/fax ATA, Smart ATA offers extensive features, management, call control, security and even more.”
