NetGen Communications, a spin-off of Commetrex (News - Alert) that handles the manufacturing, distribution and marketing of FoIP products powered by Commetrex’ technologies, announced the availability of Smart ATA in evaluation quantities.
Smart ATA, according to company officials, is NetGen’s “first of what will be a long line of voice, fax, and video telecom products that leverage Commetrex technology.” It is currently the only ATA that is capable of delivering the high transaction success rates that ITSP subscribers are demanding.
Further, Smart ATA is the first and only ATA with full support for V.34 fax. According to Marilyn Troup, who heads Commetrex’ marketing communications, “Smart ATA is not just for fax since it has a voice feature set that rivals the Cisco (News
- Alert) IAD2400.”
The Smart ATA was announced at the ITEXPO last September. It is powered by Commetrex’ patent-pending Smart FoIP technology.
Commetrex, which delivered fax technologies to the telecom equipment OEM for over a decade, has developed BladeWare, an advanced-architecture all-software telephony platform that supports FoIP with SIP signaling.
In 2009, Commetrex partnered with Sangoma Technologies (News
- Alert) to offer support for digital and analog PSTN connectivity to BladeWare. Further the addition of support for PCI and PCI Express boards for analog office and station interfaces and ISDN PRI and BRI gave the company a cutting edge fax-telephony product line for the enterprise-fax OEM.
In order to maintain its OEM focus, Commetrex spun off NetGen Communications to develop and market end-user telecom products.
The company has found that 5-10 percent of T.38 failures in SIP networks were due to faulty interaction between the SIP call-control subsystem and the T.38 implementation of all ATAs, gateways, and fax servers.
According to Cliff Schornak, Commetrex’ CTO, “not all IP networks support T.38, meaning FoIP must rely on G.711 pass-through fax, which is very similar to a voice call. But there’s also a problem there with the reliability of long or multipage faxes. Smart ATA also takes care of that problem by making all multi-page faxes as reliable as single-page faxes.”
The company says its 20 years of experience in fax and 13 years of experience in T.38 allowed it to come up with a patent-pending solution to the problem.
In another related development Commetrex announced the addition of FoIP consulting services to its portfolio of products and services. Through this service, the company is now lending a much-needed helping hand to the industry by offering its expertise to carriers, ITSPs, and enterprises to enable them to provide reliable FoIP-based services, according to company press release.
