As a figure in the fax, fax-over-IP, and smart FoIP technologies arena, Commetrex (News - Alert) makes a point of staying abreast of the latest developments in said industries, and participates by making headway with its own services. Having assisted telecom hardware vendors, service providers, and carriers use T.38 fax processes for the last 13 years, Commetrex has watched the fax industry change dramatically over those years.
Commetrex recently released the addition of FoIP consulting services to its portfolio in order to help customers and users comprehend the complex issues with FoIP and the T.38 question today. With its products that address the move of T.38 usage from the confines of the enterprise network to the IP-carrier networks through SIP trunking, additional advice is occasionally required of the provider. Commetrex has watched the progression of wider and wider deployments over the last several years, and now offers these consulting services to address the transitions.
By lending its expertise to carriers, ITSPs, and enterprises, Commetrex is able to address issues with customers while gaining more understanding of the problems at-large. Cliff Schornak, Commetrex’ CTO, stated, “ITSPs are surprised by the problematic nature of FoIP. The early-stage ITSP company never gives any thought to an infrastructure other than IP. They deploy IP voice and then turn their attention to fax, as their subscribers demand the savings that IP offers. By then, they are often suffering under a blizzard of trouble tickets related to FoIP when their subscribers aren’t getting the connect rates they are used to with PSTN fax.”
FoIP providers have no easy task as it is when it comes to deployment – with all kinds of communications issues to sort out before a successful solution can work the way it’s supposed to for a given organization. Naturally, the bigger the enterprise, the more complicated the implementation. Schornak continued, “FoIP can be a challenge, where voice was not, since the timing requirements of the T.30 fax protocol cannot always be met over packet networks. They know this is the problem, but they don’t know how to fix it. Well … we do and we can help.”
Marilyn Troup, marketing communications manager for Commetrex, remarked, “We have unique products, such as Smart ATA and the BladeWare telephony server, that include patent-pending solutions to these problems, but often ITSPs are looking for outside expertise in applying the products. Regardless of the type or size of company, we can help our customers identify the appropriate solution that best addresses their unique needs.”
