NetGen Communications, Inc., a Commetrex (News - Alert) Corporation, announced that its Smart ATA is now available from NetGen in evaluation quantities.
In a press release, the company claimed that its Smart ATA has been designed to deliver the high transaction success rates that ITSP subscribers are demanding. The company has reportedly leveraged 20 years of its experience in fax and its 13 years of experience in T.38 to develop this solution. It was developed in partnership with its Shanghai, China-based longtime ally, New Rock Technologies, Inc.
Regarding its specifications, Commetrex informed that Smart ATA offers 1-2 ports of FXS (Foreign eXchange Subscriber interface) and FXO (Foreign eXchange Office interface) and two Ethernet ports. FXS interfaces are intended to deliver analog lines to subscribers. This interface is the plug on the wall that delivers dial tone, battery current and ring voltage. FXO interfaces receive the analog line or the plugs on the phone or fax machine.
Commetrex' CTO Cliff Schornak explained that most of the IP networks do not support T.38 and require FoIP to rely on G.711 pass-through fax. This often creates problem for long or multi-page faxes. Smart ATA takes care of that problem by making all multi-page faxes as reliable as single-page faxes.
According to Marilyn Troup, the head of Commetrex' marketing communications, Smart ATA is the first and only ATA with full support for V.34 fax.
In addition of enhancing FoIP performance and function, Smart ATA also offers outstanding voice, system-management, security, and call-processing features and performance. With its voice feature, Smart ATA becomes a competitor of the Cisco (News
- Alert) IAD2400, Cisco's premier line of Smart Integrated Access Devices, claimed to offer the best-in-class integration of data and toll-quality analog or digital voice services for a customer-premises (CP) solution.
In other news, Commetrex announced the addition of FoIP consulting services to its portfolio of products and services for the carriers, ITSPs, and enterprises to enable them to provide reliable FoIP-based services.
