Vidyo to Deploy Videoconferencing On-Demand Service for Nigerian

By Jyothi Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Emperion, a provider of broadband IP communications solutions, has chosen VidyoTechnology for the first implementation of a videoconferencing on-demand service in Nigeria. This will help Emperion to power cost, quality and deployment advantages over those using traditional MCU-based videoconferencing technologies.

Emperion selected Vidyo (News - Alert) for its new technology that can reach a larger customer base with low operating costs, as Vidyo products don not require dedicated networks. The solution scales from a telepresence room to HD desktop videoconferencing. Vidyo's portal-based technology provides sophisticated APIs that easily integrate with existing back office systems.

Emperion is headquartered in Copenhagen and has subsidiaries in Nigeria and UAE. It designs, deploys, operates and maintains broadband IP communication solutions and services based on digital satellite (VSAT), fixed wireless access (FWA) and fiber networks.

Ofer Shapiro, CEO of Vidyo, said that with the Vidyo solution, service providers such as Emperion are able to deliver personal telepresence utilizing the same infrastructure for both their desktop and room videoconferencing services.

Emperion has plans to undertake a project that would utilize VidyoTechnology to create videoconferencing "kiosks" in highly populated areas of the country, where anyone could make or receive a videoconference call from Emperion Video Zone Franchise. Emperion is introducing this technology through its franchisees all over the country.

According to Vidyo officials, the Vidyo model is based on annual license fees, which will help service providers to use this technology with existing pricing structures.

Sandeep Jayaswal, managing director of Emperion West Africa, explained that with Nigeria’s current infrastructural challenges, Emperion is ready for videoconferencing to help maximize return on the investments and can schedule and hold meetings with multiple business partners anywhere, anytime.

"Because this high-quality solution is delivered over the Internet, Emperion can give its customers outstanding Vidyo-based services at much lower operating costs,” added Shapiro.

Vidyo delivers videoconferencing over converged IP networks. Its technology for OEMs and end-to-end product solutions for organizations are able to support point-to-point and multi-point connections that include a variety of different platforms ranging from Mac and Windows desktops to dedicated room solutions.

Vidyo takes the credit of being first to license technology and deliver products built upon an entirely new videoconferencing architecture that utilizes the recently approved H.264/SVC video compression standard. It delivers unparalleled video over unreliable networks including the Internet.
