Five9 to Promote Cloud Computing Best Practices in the Industry by Joining CSA

Most people believe cloud computing was first mentioned by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt in 2006, but according to MIT (News - Alert)'s Technology Review, it took place a decade earlier. In 1996, technology executives at Compaq Computer in Houston plotted the future of Internet business, and called it "cloud computing." Since that time the concept has come a long way, with former detractors now adopting a technology many see as the future of computing.

As cloud continues to evolve, it is important to establish best practices so standard application of the technology can be deployed around the world. The Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) was formed to do just that by providing security assurance and education on the use of cloud computing. Organizations that join the alliance do so to promote, develop and apply best cloud practices.

Five9, provider of cloud contact center software, has announced it is now a member of CSA. As a member, it will be collaborating with leading companies in the industry such as Microsoft (News - Alert), Dropbox, Box, Google, Salesforce and Workday to further this agenda.

"The leadership role CSA has in advocating for cloud security aligns with our mission at Five9 (News - Alert) to be at the forefront of information security for the cloud contact center. We look forward to sharing knowledge with the other CSA members on industry best practices for effectively safeguarding our customers' data," said Scott Welch, executive vice president, cloud operations, Five9.

The solutions Five9 delivers are designed to give contact center operators the freedom to scale up or down without the capital and operational expenditure associated with on premise infrastructure. As a cloud contact center provider, the company is able to manage millions of calls on behalf of its customers every single day.

Its infrastructure, applications and operations are protected against security breaches and data loss, so its customers can do what they do best without having to worry about the headaches of dealing with an IT department. Customer business continuity is delivered from replicated data centers in different locations on opposite coasts of the US with 24/7/365 data center operations, data centers audited using SAS70/SSAE16 standards, and automatic real-time data synchronization between data centers.

"CSA members are committed to leading the conversation on cloud security. As a pioneer in the cloud contact center space, Five9 brings a unique perspective to our diverse organization. We welcome Five9 to the CSA and look forward to the insights and collaborations Five9 will provide," said Jim Reavis, CEO, Cloud Security Alliance.
