Many people are either considering dropping, or already have dropped, their home landline phones in favor of going all-cellular. The convenience of using a single phone for all calls, with a centralized voicemail box and address book, is very appealing. People are so busy they may feel that there simply is not time in their days to check multiple voicemail boxes. Plus, having one number simplifies things for callers who always know to dial the same number if they want to reach a particular person.
The one downside to going all-cellular is that international calling can be quite expensive from any type of phone, especially cellular. For those accustomed to the low per-minute cost of Internet phone services (referred to as VoIP
), the thought of relying on a cell phone only for all calls, even international, can be less than inspiring. Most people think there’s no way to get around such costs without keeping a landline.
Enter Packetel (News - Alert).
The company offers an International calling service that lets users access low international calling rates from any phone, even a cell phone. The service gives the user a local Personal Access Number, similar in functionality to the 800-number associated with a calling card. From any phone, the user dials that local number to access low international rates. All calls made by first dialing the Personal Access Number are subject to the same low rates and other conveniences associated with Packetel’s service.
Packetel designed its international calling service for people who are busy and/or constantly on the go. People who rely only on a cell phone for voice communications can benefit from accessing low rates anywhere. Likewise, people who use different phones at different times of day (for example, a landline at night, a cell phone on the weekends and a desk phone while at work) can also benefit from low international rates.
Beyond low international rates, Packetel’s service provides other benefits. It simplifies the process of making an international call. It lets people be reachable anywhere by using a follow-me feature. It’s simpler to use than a calling card, and offer convenient phone book features.
