Voice and video over IP engines provider SPIRIT DSP (News - Alert) announced this week that LG U+, South Korean's leading mobile and telecommunications service provider, has decided to license SPIRIT's TeamSpirit Voice&Video Engine Mobile to power HD-quality VoIP and video-calling on mobile devices.

"SPIRIT DSP has a strong presence in Asia Pacific market and S. Korea LG U+ has come to rely on SPIRIT's proven and highly optimized, carrier-grade engine technology to handle voice and video over IP processing," said SPIRIT's Vice President of Sales Alex Kravchenko "We're pleased to continue our cooperation with LG U+ and maintain our critical role in bringing South Korean mobile users the highest quality communications experience possible."

Currently, South Korea is known for having one of the world’s most vibrant IP communications markets, backed by strong support from the government. In fact, several years ago, government officials introduced a dedicated area zone for VoIP telephone numbers, followed shortly by a number of portability options that made it possible for people to move to VoIP calling without changing their phone number.

South Korea is also praised for its widespread mobile VoIP adoption, thanks to its wireless broadband infrastructure. In just 18 months, the number of smartphone subscribers in South Korea has exploded more than ten-fold to top 10 million (or around a fifth of the population) stimulating local carriers to deploy their own mobile VVoIP (voice and video over IP) services to retain their customers from migrating to Skype and Google (News - Alert) mobile voice and video services, according to SPIRIT officials.

LG U+ will enlist the help of TeamSpirit Engine, an SDK for real-time IP calling/conferencing communications that allows application developers and service providers to offer superior quality voice and video products to millions of global users. TeamSpirit Engine software couples scalable echo- and noise-free audio with scalable video to guarantee the highest quality conferencing experience.

Moreover, TeamSpirit boasts many hours of battery life in wideband talk mode. The voice engine includes highly optimized standard voice codecs and a patent-free wideband error-resilient scalable SPIRIT IP-MR(TM) voice codec (IETF RFC 6262). The video engine includes SPIRIT's H.264 scalable video codec that is able to adapt streams to each peer's network and PC environments without heavy transcoding and it includes a multi-component stream protection module that compensates for network jitter and packet loss, according to company officials.

In related industry news, IP communications company AireSpring (News - Alert) is currently celebrating its 10th year in operation and the fact that it is debt free, cash-flow positive and growing, according to company officials. And, since it is more profitable than it has ever been, AireSpring is currently looking to add to its growing team of channel managers.

“Work for a company who will make sure that your customers get served and your agents get paid their hard earned commission,” AireSpring officials explained in a recent email blast.

AireSpring, an award-winning company, is one of the fastest growing telecommunications carriers in the USA, with over four billion call records processed every year. AireSpring offers next-generation integrated, SIP/VoIP, voice, data, and conferencing products geared to deliver power and flexibility at cost-effective rates, according to company officials.
