Due to a partnership between global telecommunications services platform provider NMS Communications and Malaysian mobile services provider NGC Systems, cell users in Malaysia now have a new way to communicate. Maxis Communications, Malaysia’s largest provider, has started up a new service called Maxis Video Avatar. The service lets subscribers send a video SMS to friends and family, and was inspired by a solution developed by NMS and NGC Systems.
“We are seeing a growing number of our customers, especially within the youth segment, personalizing their mobile phones with our add-on services such as ringtones and wallpapers,” said Kugan Thirunavakarasu, Maxis Head of Product Development and Infotainment. “They see their phones as an extension of their personalities and a way to express their individuality. Maxis Video Avatar is particularly the sort of interactive, personality and character-driven product our customers will enjoy and use to further personalize their phones.”
Video SMS is gaining steam, with subscribers looking for new ways to personalize their communications devices. Enabling a cell phone user to create video messages or send messages via an avatar, the application can also send the talking video message over 2.5G and 3G

networks. Plus, it’s supported by almost all handsets.
“The growing demand from customers for personalization features is the driving force for Maxis to continue to pioneer the release of innovative services and productsm,” added Thirunavakarasu. “We now boast the largest mobile personalization catalogue in Malaysia on the Maxis portal.”
