Vivendo, a Magento Platinum partner, has announced the release of a Magento-SugarCRM (News - Alert) extension.
Officials of Vivendo say the Magento-SugarCRM extension "allows users of both Open Source systems to connect the eCommerce platform to the CRM system. This allows shop owners to automatically upload leads and customers from webshop to CRM, including information on abandoned shop carts and customer service cases."
The extension can be ordered and downloaded from VivendoConnect.com
Last summer, TMC reported that PaySimple, which sells on-demand electronic payment products for small businesses, implemented technology by Varien, an eCommerce provider.
"In this implementation, PaySimple has integrated its credit card processing services with the Magento open source shopping cart platform, which delivers the power and security of an enterprise solution without the hassle and cost."
Also, back in November, TMC reported that Bright House Networks and Broadcore (News - Alert) implemented SugarCRM's Sugar Enterprise offering on-site.
"For Bright House Networks, a company with 2.4 million customers in several large markets and the nation’s sixth largest multi-service operator." "Sugar Enterprise offers a new customer interaction hub, implemented by SugarCRM Gold Partner, Levementum, that can be used by the companies entire personnel to manage customer life cycles."
“The solution needed to be flexible and open enough to adapt to existing business-processes while at the same time lowering our total cost of ownership and integration with our existing IT infrastructure,” said Lee Vinton, manager of business engineering services at BHN.
Last month Martin Schneider, Director of Product Marketing for SugarCRM, told TMCnet that it's SugarCRM's philosophy that, "open source and proprietary applications are inevitably linked, and will co-exist because IT managers of businesses will want them to. Just like the hosted versus on-site argument, there never has been, nor ever will be, a one-size-fits-all philosophy when it comes to software. And it’s the responsibility of vendors, and in their best interest, to ensure that’s the case with their product offerings."
At the same time, he said, "as commercial open source applications continue to mature and proliferate, the 'volunteer' nature of community open source projects, cited by some as a weakness for open source adoption within enterprises, will be supplemented by continued assistance and documented successes by the vendors."
As the number and variety of businesses that are adopting these hybrid environments increase, the ease and sophistication of integrating open source with proprietary-based solutions will only improve, he said: "It’s just a matter of time."
