Open Source CRM Provider Snags High-Profile Clients

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Officials of open source CRM provider SugarCRM (News - Alert), the open source customer relationship management software vendor, say “a number of high-profile companies” have selected SugarCRM’s cloud-based CRM services.

The organizations include BLS Telecom, Robin Hood, The Utah Flash, SkyScanner and BancVue, a fairly diverse group spanning different industries and geographies.

Guess Little John and Maid Marian just weren’t getting it done for Robin Locksley anymore. Friar Tuck was obviously multitasking.BLS Telecom, a vendor of telecommunication products and services headquartered in Harrison, New York, chose SugarCRM to “help streamline its product order and delivery process,” according to SugarCRM officials, “achieving efficiency gains of almost 80 percent.”

“SugarCRM enables us to provide faster and more consistent customer service and support,” says Chris Tooley, chief network architect at BLS Telecom. “We have been able to see results in only a few short weeks.”

Robin Hood, whose officials describe it as a “poverty-fighting organization” in New York City selected SugarCRM to manage partnerships with the more than 200 programs and schools it funds. Michael Weinstein, senior vice president for programs, said they needed help “deciding which grants to fund with the more than $100 million we spend each year.”

In an interview with TMC’s (News - Alert) Stefania Viscusi earlier this month, Martin Schneider, Director of Product Marketing for SugarCRM said that while “the cloud is many things. SugarCRM recognizes that the clouds analogous to open source at its roots.”

A major aspect of the cloud, Schneider said, is that “it can enable faster, cheaper innovation when it comes to software. A developer, or team of programmers, can leverage cloud-based development platforms to build new and innovative applications from scratch based on open source components such as PHP.”

An NBA-affiliated professional basketball team in Orem, Utah is using SugarCRM in its Sales and Fan Relations department to manage the complete customer experience: “Without a CRM solution, our fans were slipping through the cracks,” explains Drew Sellers, vice president of operations.

Sounds like what was needed there was a good building contractor.

And BancVue, an Austin, Texas-based provider of financial services, is using SugarCRM as a basis for a services-based architecture focused on four goals: grow core deposits, attract new customers, increase retention rates and boost profitability.

BancVue’s deployment, along with 14 other SugarCRM case studies, will be presented at SugarCon, SugarCRM’s customer and developer conference, to be held April 12-15 at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco.
