VoIP

is the very latest in phone system technology, allowing regular voice calls to be delivered over a computer network as opposed to traditional phone lines. Two main types of VoIP exist in today's marketplace.
Dealers of small business VoIP replace your already existing phone system with new hardware that carries calls over your internal network. These systems have many benefits, but are also not a guaranteed way of saving money.
The primary reason for choosing VoIP for your small business is that it gives you help with multiple branches, telecommuters, or remote sales offices that are already connected to a company network. With a VoIP system , all these locations can access the full features of the phone system. VoIP also permits calls between locations by way of extension dialing, thus rendering them free. Businesses with large long distance charges for calls between locations usually find that to be an irresistible reason for upgrading.
Charges for calls outside the company network will not be reduced in that manner, however. For that, it is recommended that you turn to small business VoIP service. With VoIP service, calls are sent over the web in the form of data until they approach their destination, at which point they are converted back and transmitted along standard phone lines.
Not much hardware on your end is needed for this. Usually, already existing phones can be retained, but you need a monthly subscription to the service. Also known as Internet telephony, the service allows for very cheap international and long-distance calling.
