Flexera Software, a company that sells Application Usage Management tools and software licensing solutions, has unveiled the latest release of FlexNet Producer Suite, a release that will equip software application vendors and intelligent device manufacturers (IDM's) with tools necessary to migrate their applications to the cloud and virtual environments. The release also safeguards their intellectual property (IP) and ensures compliance in those environments
The software licensing company has enhanced three offerings within the FlexNet Producer Suite: FlexNet Operations, FlexNet Publisher and FlexNet Embedded.
J. Paul Bryden, manager of sales and marketing at Geo-Slope, said Flexera “could not have achieved our level of global success without the combination of granular licensing control and effective intellectual property protection that Flexera Software provides."
Flexera officials said security and IP protection were two major considerations: “Today's enhancements to FlexNet Producer Suite enable application producers to migrate their on-premises applications to an Amazon EC2 Cloud environment via the support of binding elements that are available only within the Amazon EC2 infrastructure.”
Binding prevents packaged software and virtual appliances from being cloned and run outside of an Amazon EC2 Cloud, according to officials. The new binding capability from Flexera Software is the only cloud licensing solution available that prevents license leakage in an Amazon EC2 environment.
FlexNet Producer Suite now offers a browser-based user interface enabling license administrators to monitor and control access to software licenses as well.
Recently TMCnet reported that Estech Systems, a provider of telephone systems for businesses and organizations, has selected FlexNet product suite to manage software licensing and entitlements.
ESI's (News - Alert) business phone systems have a licensing component so customers can purchase different feature sets and functionality enabled via embedded software. The company works with a nationwide network of independent resellers who sell ESI's phone systems directly to end users. As technology and ESI's product lines have evolved, licensing of the embedded software has become increasingly important, company officials said.
