By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Adding to their continually growing family of TTS voices, speech technologies provider Loquendo (News - Alert) has announced the introduction of Milla, a new female Finnish voice.

Milla is the first voice to be offered in Finnish by the company and will be followed by a male voice later this year. With this language availability, Loquendo provides support for its partners and clients to reach further into the Scandinavian markets.

Loquendo also offers two Swedish voices and said it will offer a Danish voice next month – bolstering the company's international presence and providing more choices for developing multilingual applications.

With this latest addition, Loquendo now offers 25 different languages in both male and female voices including Greek, Turkish, American Spanish, Canadian French, Mandarin Chinese, Dutch, Russian, and many more.

Loquendo TTS speech synthesis provides lifelike voices for all types of applications that are expressive and natural sounding. The voices have the ability to sigh, laugh, be happy or sad, and portray other emotions as needed.

Also, TTS Director provides tools to help designers create prompts exactly as they want them and includes features like a User-Driven Unit Selection Tool, predefined and user-defined Reading Styles, Voice Flavors, a customized Voice Creator, and more.

The offerings algorithms guarantee rapid response and with a pronunciation lexicon, ensure that vocabulary including abbreviations, acronyms or regional pronunciations can be created by the designer and read correctly by the voice.

Just last week, the company announced its reach further into the European markets with Olga, the first Russian voice to be made available by the company. The male version of the Russian voice is expected to be released some time in 2009.

The company also introduced Steven - an American English voice was that brings the number of U.S. English voices offered by the company to five.
