EmergiTech, a major player in public safety software development, recently introduced a new text messaging capability for the IP9-1-1 System.

Officials said that EmergiTech’s IP9-1-1 software system has been designed to be an easy-to-use, comprehensive and highly scalable software-based solution for emergency call centers.

Now, the addition of the text messaging capability will help call centers update their technology to keep pace with current cellular technology used by consumers.

Through a partnership with AGENT511, the EmergiTech IP9-1-1 software now also allows emergency call takers to respond to text messages that are sent to 9-1-1.

The ability of 9-1-1 call centers to receive text messages will also help accommodate people with a hearing impairment or speech disability.

“With so many Americans, especially the younger generation, relying on texting as a primary means of communication, it is critical that 9-1-1 call centers have the ability to communicate with them via text messaging,” said B.J. Buss, regional sales manager at EmergiTech.

Company officials confirmed that texting will aid in situations like domestic violence where making a phone call may be risky or impossible.

“When the four major telecom carriers enabled their networks to handle texting services to 9-1-1 call centers last month, it shifted the focus to the call centers to upgrade their technology to be able to receive and respond to these text messages,” Buss added. “We are proud to say that EmergiTech’s IP9-1-1 system is text-ready.”

EmergiTech develops designs and implements Microsoft (News - Alert) WindowsTM-based software for law enforcement, 9-1-1 emergency communications, fire and EMS. For 30 years, the company has provided its products and services to over 400 state and local government agencies in 19 states.
