Coming Soon: Upgrades for Esnatech's UC Mobile Link Software

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Senior Editor

Irving, Texas-based Iwatsu Voice Networks specializes in unified communications (UC) solutions. The company, a subsidiary of Japan-based Iwatsu Electric, recently announced the upcoming availability of enhancements to Esnatech’s UC Mobile Link software.

More specifically, UC Mobile Link—available through Iwatsu—soon will support J2ME-enabled wireless devices. This functionality is being incorporated into the next release (7.5) of Esnatech’s UC platform, Telephony Office-LinX (also referred to as TOL).

UC Mobile Link is a software package for TOL that offers enhanced presence and fixed-mobile convergence features for a wide range of wireless devices connected to enterprise PBXs from companies like Cisco, Avaya, Mitel (News - Alert), Nortel, Iwatsu, AASTRA, 3Com, and Asterisk.

For mobile users, UC Mobile Link provides complete access to enterprise PBX features, so that communications and collaboration tasks can continue outside office walls.

“Delivering fixed to mobile convergence over a wide variety of wireless devices with existing enterprise PBX (News - Alert) infrastructure opens the door to incredible productivity gains and cost savings within the enterprise,” said Davide Petramala, global VP of marketing at Esnatech, in a statement.

Petramala continued: “Users can see who is called them on their office phone in real-time, giving them the power to control their mobility and deliver true productivity gains when they are out of the office. If they need to find someone they can simply open UC Mobile link on their device of choice and see who is online/offline and available to communicate.”

With the updated UC Mobile Link software, Esnatech Unified Communications platform users will have access, directly on their wireless devices, to the following presence management features:
  • Integration with enterprise solutions like Microsoft (News - Alert) Live Communication Server
  • Define presence settings for colleagues in the office
  • See and find presence info for colleagues in the office
  • Dial internal extensions directly from cell phone
  • Initiate and participate in corporate instant messaging sessions
  • View office phone call history, including real-time view of inbound/outbound calls
  • Handle live office calls directly from cell phone
The new UC Mobile Link software will offer compatibility with J2ME-enabled devices, including Nokia’s (News - Alert) Series 60 and Series 80, and Sony Ericsson’s UIQ P800/P900/P910/P990.

“Any organization, whether using Voice over IP or not, can use the Telephony Office-LinX platform to link office content, status and messaging to mobile users,” noted Esnatech CEO and CTO Mohammad Nezrati. “Users will have all the tools they need to unify and simplify their office communications.”

UC Mobile Link with J2ME support will be incorporated into Telephony Office-LinX 7.5, slated for release during the third quarter of 2007.

Other enhancements to the upcoming TOL 7.5 include support for BlackBerry (News - Alert) and Windows-based mobile devices, and fixed-mobile convergence with phone systems from Mitel, 3Com, Avaya, NEC, Iwatsu Networks, Toshiba, Panasonic, Ericsson, Cisco, and Nortel.
