In this age of depressing economies and an imminent worldwide market crisis, enterprises have consistently been working on cutting their I.T. operation costs through a number of ways, and virtualization has been emerging an effective tool that helps them in achieving considerable savings in their I.T. hardware and software related expenses.
Emulex, a provider of converged networking solutions that offers connectivity solutions for servers, networks and storage devices within the data center, has announced that it is going to deliver a presentation of the new enhancements to its range of networking and storage adapters at VMword 2011 in Las Vegas this week. These solutions have been designed with an aim to improve VMware environments and enable the virtualization of mission-critical workloads.
Offering a wide range of products such as Fiber Channel host bus adapters, network interface cards, converged network adapters, controllers, embedded bridges and switches, and connectivity management software solutions; Emulex caters to the needs of various well known server and storage OEMs such as Cisco, Dell, EMC, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Hitachi Data Systems (News - Alert), HP, Huawei, IBM, NEC, NetApp and Oracle.
At the VMworld 2011, Emulex will offer a demonstration of a number of its new enhancements. These include iSCSI over Data Center Bridging or ‘DCB,’ a new feature that enables the Emulex (News - Alert) OneConnect iSCSI adapters to work over a 10GbE converged network, which cuts down latency and optimizes bandwidth allocation and performance. The company will also provide valuable insight upon the ways in which an end-to-end lossless iSCSI storage connection can be established between the Emulex OCe11102-I adapter and a Dell (News - Alert)/EqualLogic PS6010 iSCSI storage array running the new v5.1 firmware.
Universal Multi-Channel or ‘UMC’ is a yet another new feature that supports the Emulex OneConnect OCe11102 10Gb Ethernet or ‘10GbE’ Universal Converged Network Adapters or ‘UCNAs.’ It helps in presenting eight unique PCI (News - Alert) functions to the VMware ESXi hypervisor through OCe11102 dual-port UNCAs, which can be assigned to virtual machine or VM applications, VM migration and VM management. During the presentation, Emulex will train the enterprise representatives how to correctly set up UMC, manage bandwidth allocation and configure functions in a VMware environment.
Emulex has also introduced its new Emulex Engine or ‘XE’ 201 I/O Controller, a quad-port controller that unifies Fibre Channel and Ethernet and is driver-compatible with all previous generation Emulex LightPulse Host Bus Adapters or ‘HBAs’ for VMware environments. These 16Gb/s HBAs are especially helpful in consolidating I/O-intensive applications for VMware environments.
Earlier this month, Emulex announced that it had been named a winner by the Golden Bridge Business Awards that were formerly known as the Network Products Guide Innovation Awards in the ‘Innovation in Information Technology: Convergence’ category for the year 2011. The company won the title for the Emulex Engine or ‘XE’201 I/O Controller.
