Aculab, a provider of technology for the global communications market that offers VoIP developers the hardware and software they need for high performance, wired and wireless communications solutions, has announced a new 2U rackmount chasis version of its GroomerII signaling and media gateway.
The enhancement was added to help service providers looking to add powerful IP communications features without losing out on the investments in their legacy, TDM-based systems.
“By offering these IP capabilities on their existing infrastructure, operators will be able to gradually transition to the NGN, said Ronald Gruia (News - Alert), a principal analyst for Frost and Sullivan’s Information and Communications Technologies Practice.
“In addition, the ability of GroomerII to combine signaling and media in a single gateway squarely addresses a key OPEX (News - Alert) pain point for them.”
GroomerII helps customers manage gateway and signaling functions and delivers SS7-to-SIP interconnection and routing, E1 to T1 encoding conversion and includes a full-featured call manager. With these capabilities, it’s possible to achieve interoperability “across a converging landscape without the need for external soft switches, signaling gateways or media gateway controllers,” according to Aculab (News - Alert).
The new GroomerII 2U model includes a number of signaling and media conversion capabilities and can accommodate eight, 16, or 24 E1/T1 trunks. In addition, the model can be installed in US-based Telco networks as the server chasis is certified compliant with NEBS standards.
“GroomerII is designed to be an unobtrusive component that binds together a variety of networks, whether SS7, ISDN, CAS or IP, and gives service providers a cost-efficient vehicle to offer next-generation services whilst continuing to utilize their existing infrastructure,” said Ian Colville (News - Alert), Product Manager for Aculab.
