Octasic Delivers Multi-Core Gateway DSP Platform

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

Octasic (News - Alert), a leading innovator of media processing solutions, recently announced that after posting a 57 percent leap in revenue during 2007, the company is poised to deliver its Vocallo chipset — the next generation multi-core gateway DSP platform for voice, video and data over IP applications in early 2008.

Based on Opus, Octasic’s DSP core architecture, the Vocallo expandable media gateway solution is the first DSP platform of its kind to enable a new flexible business model for OEMs designing media gateways, according to Michel Laurence, Octasic’s chairman and CEO.

“This past year was simply tremendous for us,” said Laurence. “The strength of our products, our continued expansion into international markets, and our exciting new product developments are propelling the company forward. We look forward to an exciting 2008, as our recently announced Vocallo product ships and we enter new, diversified market areas.”

Qualified customers are participating in its Early Access Program, providing a “first look” at Vocallo, along with technical assistance and advantageous pricing.

In fact, during 2007, Octasic’s presence in international markets grew, with Asia now representing nearly 40 percent of the company’s revenue. The company also added several new field application engineers in the region to support its growing customer base. In addition, the company’s workforce grew by 50 percent, enhancing its engineering, marketing, sales and support departments.

“Octasic’s growth is remarkable given the weak market conditions for communications semiconductors in 2007,” said Joseph Byrne, senior analyst at The Linley Group. “The new high-density Vocallo voice processor expands the opportunities Octasic can pursue.”

Octasic achieved several other important milestones in 2007 including the release of its SoftEcho product – an echo cancellation technology for a variety of VoIP and hands-free applications.

The Canadian company also joined forces with three leading partners for its SoftEcho technology: Microsoft, ARM and Symbian (News - Alert). Together, these partners help Octasic provide the best echo cancellation solutions on the market. Alain Legault joined the company as vice president of engineering. Mr. Legault, formerly vice president of development for video products at Matrox, will lead Octasic’s engineering team and its new developments in the video space.
