Lightyear Network Solutions (News - Alert), Inc., an established provider of data, voice and wireless telecommunication services to business and residential customers throughout North America, has commercially launched its new VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calling platform that boasts various switches to increase call quality.

This new carrier-class platform, designed by the company’s in-house IT team, offers a number of benefits for Lightyear’s popular IP telephony product, including increased functionality and flexibility.

“We are excited and proud to commercially deploy our new VoIP platform,” said Stephen M. Lochmueller, chief executive officer, Lightyear, in a statement.

“Our IT team has worked diligently on this project for a number of months, and the platform performed exceptionally well in beta testing. This new VoIP architecture will allow Lightyear to adapt to its customer needs very quickly to set us apart from our competitors,” Lochmueller added.

The robust platform provides Lightyear with a large amount controls and features that were not available with the previous proprietary softswitch the company utilized under a licensing agreement. The company ultimately developed its own new platform using open source methodology because of its low cost and high uptime that didn’t require the need for expensive licenses and long wait times for modifications.

Customer can see multiple benefits from this VoiP switch including cleaner and better call quality, Improved business continuity options over legacy system; additional capacity for simultaneous calls and cost-competitive pricing for on-network calls among other things.

In related news, TMCnet reported that nexMatrix has just unveiled enhancements to Protelity, a hosted and multi-tenant PBX (News - Alert) application that combines enterprise-grade telephony features with the company’s nexSwitch softswitches.
