Voip-Pal.Com Demos Lawful Intercept Technology on Proprietary VoIP Switch

Voip-Pal.Com, a broadband VoIP telecom company offering local and long distance VoIP services to residential and business customers, has successfully demonstrated its Lawful or Legal Intercept Technology on its proprietary VoIP platform that uses a VoIP switch.

The company is seeking prospective clients for future licensing or purchase of the technology.

With the growing popularity of VoIP services, there are chances for misuse of the technology for unlawful practices. VoIP is becoming the preferred channel of communication for criminals and terrorists because of the difficulty of intercepting encrypted messages across VoIP service providers.

The patented technology developed by Digifonica, Voip-Pal's wholly owned subsidiary, addresses this concern. It has the ability to  monitor VoIP calls right on the VoIP service provider (VSP's) equipment, independent of access methods (Wi-Fi, DSL, cable, Wimax etc) and under complete stealth mode.

The demonstration shows how Voip-Pal's LI Technology is used to intercept a VoIP conversation under absolute stealth mode. The demo was performed using the company's proprietary VoIP platform including, its smartphone VoIP application for the Android, Voip-Pal's Cloud servers and proprietary VoIP switch technology with wholesale termination being provided by Tata Communications (News - Alert).

Earlier this year, Voip-Pal’s subsidiary Digifonica was issued the Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for this lawful intercept technology. The patent application discloses how law enforcement and anti-terrorist agencies can monitor VoIP calls of persons of interest.

"This demonstration truly validates the authenticity and potential of the LI technology for law enforcement purposes," said Dennis Chang, president and CEO of Voip-Pal, in a statement.  "We would like to invite other qualified VSP OEMs to contact us for a scheduled demonstration to test and see for themselves first hand.”

According to Chang, it's no longer a matter of 'if' this technology works, but a matter of 'when' it will be implemented as several countries including the U.S. have already requested to provide LI access to qualified agencies. Now it is only a matter of time when it will become mandatory for all VSPs.
