Voiceserve's Voipswitch Vippie Mobile SIP Softphone Lands 2009 UC TMC Labs Award

The advent of EDGE, 3G and WiFi (News - Alert) technology has brought with it increasing innovation in the mobile telecom space. And softphones are playing an increasingly important role in these innovations as companies look to streamline cost reducing technologies.

The Voipswitch “Vippie Mobile SIP Softphone” from Voiceserve Inc., which this week was presented a 2009 TMC (News - Alert) Labs Innovation Award presented by its publication Unified Communications, is one device ideally suited for communication via either GPRS, EDGE, 3G or WiFi connection. With its multi functional characteristics customers are moving toward it as an alternative to the standard GSM.
“With its multi functional characteristics our customers now have an alternative to the standard GSM mobile communication, enabling them to bring dramatic savings to the vast range of clientele.” said Chris Oglaza, CTO Voiceserve Inc.
The Vippie Mobile is designed to allow users to connect to Internet using WiFi, GPRS, EDGE or UMTS. And now, the mobile phone end-user, with the help of the new Symbian (News - Alert) functions, can select the connection option when beginning the application – even blocked regions of the world such as the UAE.
As TMCnet recently reported, for several years now VoIP users in the United Arab Emirates have been battling with telcos employing restrictive practices designed to cut them off from IP Telecommunication services.
According to VoIP platform solutions provider Voipswitch, these restrictions employed by regional telecom giant Etisalat (News - Alert) block SIP traffic using packet filter technology. While in the past port blocking – a relatively easy hurdle to navigate– had been employed, the more difficult to penetrate packet filtering is a relatively easy and permanent block to data transfer.
Last month the London-based company announced its Voipswitch operation has received Symbian Signed status for its new mobile software module the "Vippie Mobile for Symbian".
“We support our partners who are adding key applications from PC and ATA VOIP communication to Mobile SIP via wifi, and more, enabling them to tailor their systems to the individual needs of their customers,” said Michael Bibelman CEO Voiceserve Inc. “Voipswitch offers the complete connectivity experience that customers are demanding today. The Mobile SIP communication can be liked to the recently released award winning IP-PBX (News - Alert), dramatically changing the manner of communication globally.”
Tom Keating, CTO and TMC Labs editorial director at TMC, says Voipswitch had markedly demonstrated a commitment to quality and the development of the unified communications industry through its Voipswitch Vippie Mobile SIP softphone. “Voipswitch deserves this great honor, and I look forward to seeing other innovative solutions from them as they continue to contribute to the future of the UC industry.”
The TMC Labs Innovation Award honors products that have demonstrated raw innovation, unique features, and significant contributions toward improving communications technology. The TMC Labs Innovation Award is not granted to the best-selling products, but instead to those demonstrating a significant contribution to the industry.
“We’re proud to grant Voiceserve Inc. with a Unified Communications TMC Labs Innovation Award,” stated Rich Tehrani, TMC president. “Vippie Mobile SIP softphone is clearly deserving of recognition for its out-of-box innovation.”
