In conjunction with its plan to become the most desired 4G wireless connectivity provider, Verizon Wireless (News - Alert) is working tirelessly to roll out a revamped network this year that will allow more customers to benefits from its lightning-speed 4G LTE (News - Alert) network.
Unveiling a variety of hot off-the-press smartphones and devices at last year’s Consumer Electronics Show, and extending its footprint within 200 markets in the U.S., Verizon is hoping to overthrow AT&T (News
- Alert) and Sprint by doubling its coverage, as well as expanding into an additional 200 new markets in the near future.
In addition, the wireless connectivity provider has halted launching any new 3G smartphones or 4G devices and instead is focusing solely on new smartphones that boast 4G LTE capabilities.
In line with the iPad 3 making its debut earlier this month, Verizon is competing with AT&T’s LTE network. However, in stark comparison to the select markets AT&T is involved in, 20 in total, Verizon is attempting to appeal to a much more diverse audience of iPad users and future 4G iPhone (News - Alert) owners.
A recent article featured on GottaBeMobile revealed that 4G LTE can power downlink speeds of between 5-12 Mbps and uplink speeds between 2-5 Mbps.
Completely transitioning its network to 4G will hopefully give Verizon the wireless connectivity competitive edge it needs to pull away from the competition in the industry. One thing is for sure, with the company’s pre-emptive strike to enhance its 4G LTE coverage and the 4G trend exploding, users will be more than slightly intrigued.
But, it seems that it may not be all smooth sailing into the 4G LTE ocean, as earlier this week TMCnet had the news that users have been expressing their frustrations over not being able to tap into the Verizon 4G network with their iPads. Luckily, AT&T has come to the rescue and users can access AT&T’s 3G network by simply replacing the Verizon SIM card with the AT&T SIM card.
