In wireless telecommunications, outstanding quality of service and quality of experience is essential. EXFO (News - Alert) Inc. is a provider of next-generation test and service assurance solutions for wireline and wireless network operators and equipment manufacturers in the global telecommunications industry that offers solutions that deliver end-to-end quality of service and quality of experience visibility.
The company recently helped a major North American network operator expand its VDSL3/IPTV (News
- Alert) footprint by adopting EXFO’s solution. EXFO’s expansion of next-generation VDSL2 (Very High Bit Rate Digital Subscriber Line 2) and IPTV services over its hybrid network and its support for its traditional voice and ADSL2+ Internet service offerings makes it a desirable solution.
VSDL operates over the cooper wires in phone lines, but can achieve speeds as high as 52 Mbps downstream (to your home) and 16 Mbps upstream (from your home). The key to VDSL is that the telephone companies are replacing many of their main feeds with fiber-optic cable, which will allow VDSL’s high speed performance to reach longer distances.
The tier-1 North American operator that selected EXFO’s solution had shipments exceeding $6 million for the AXS-200/635 in 2011. The AXS-200/635 is a complete, multilayer test solution designed for the deployment, troubleshooting and repair of voice, broadband and multiplay services. It’s easy to use and offers a comprehensive set of features that enable customers to lower OPEX (News - Alert) through the reduction of truck rolls and help them save on CAPEX.
The Loop Mapper feature is a unique automated measurement that uses a combination of time-domain reflectometry (TDR) and frequency-domain reflectometry (FDR) to display a graphical depiction of the location and length of bridged taps and the end of the cable. This feature makes it simple for less-skilled installation technicians to quickly identify and locate bridged taps that affect the quality of service.
EXFO offers a wide variety of products, from research and development/manufacturing testing, field network testing, and quality of service assessment. Converged service assurance is one sublet of products under the quality of service assessment, and offers product lines such as VoIP service assurance, wireless service assurance, NGN service assurance, IP video service assurance, business intelligence and custom solutions.
The Brix System is EXFO’s converged service assurance solution. It is a seamlessly integrated hardware and software solution that delivers a high quality of service, as well as real-time IP service monitoring and verification for the world’s most demanding networks. It ensures the successful launch and ongoing, profitable operation of all types of IP-based voice, video and data applications and services across wireline and wireless networks.
The company’s wireless solution, BrixHawk SA, assures quality of service for mobile providers and interoperability between transport technologies and multivendor equipment. It offers network-wide monitoring, reporting and troubleshooting capabilities for GSM, UMTS, GPRS, HSPA, HSPA+, LTE (News - Alert) and WIMAX networks.
As the company recently released its second-quarter results for fiscal 2012, it looks to perform even better for the second half of the year.
“In the second half of our fiscal year, which is typically our strongest, we expect to benefit from major product launches, as well as continued market penetration with our wireless, 40G/100G and other Protocol solutions, to complete the year with at least single-digit sales growth,” said Germain Lamonde, EXFO’s chairman, president and CEO.
