Acronis Acquires GroupLogic, Looks to Provide Secure Data Accessibility

By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Provider of disaster recovery and data protection solutions for physical, virtual and cloud environments, Acronis, recently announced that it has acquired GroupLogic, a provider of enterprise file access, sharing and syncing software. Acronis aims to help organizations keep their dynamic data accessible and available at all times on any platform by leveraging GroupLogic's product portfolio.

Indeed, acquiring GroupLogic is a calculated move from Acronis in its move toward addressing the market demand for data availability, accessibility and protection led by the rise in enterprise mobility, rising storage costs and other factors.

“Our customers are facing a new IT environment. The growth of big data, the drive for greater collaboration and the rise in mobile working have introduced new devices and unsecure file sharing practices into the enterprise," said Acronis president and CEO Alex Pinchev. "Confidential corporate content is regularly leaving the network on iPads, smartphones or via a public Cloud. With the acquisition of GroupLogic we are positioned to help organizations of all sizes realize the benefits of enterprise mobility and secure collaboration, while keeping corporate content and systems available and accessible at all times."

Aside from secure enterprise file sharing and syncing for mobile workers, GroupLogic solutions also enable organizations to offer seamless collaboration without having to compromise their corporate data protection of storage optimization strategies. The company also provides solutions for seamless integration of Apple (News - Alert) devices into enterprise server environments.

GorupLogic unveiled its latest mobile file management system, mobilEcho 4.0, in August. The offering features a number of management tools, while also allowing users to browse and search for files on corporate file servers — even allowing users to access, edit and preview such files and store them for offline use. Included as part of mobilEcho 4.0, is AD Home Access Directory, which provides users with access to files in their home directory as well as Quickoffice 'Save Back' support.
