Charter Communications (News - Alert), Inc. announced that it has completed the acquisition of broadband systems from Windjammer Communications LLC which were serving about 17,000 customers in Alabama and Georgia.
Charter is a broadband communications company and a cable operator in the United States. Charter offers several advanced broadband services, including advanced Charter TV video entertainment programming, Charter Internet access, and Charter Phone (News - Alert). Also, Charter Business provides scalable, tailored, and cost-effective broadband communications solutions to business organizations.
This includes business-to-business Internet access, data networking, business telephone, video and music entertainment services, and wireless backhaul.
“This transaction demonstrates Charter's disciplined approach to capital allocation and M&A,” said Steven Apodaca, president, Operations at Charter, in a release. “Our primary focus is providing value to our customers and enhancing their experience with Charter.”
“This acquisition is aligned with our strategy of enhancing and growing core system clusters to enable significant operational synergies. Charter has served customers in those two states for many years, and customers in the newly acquired systems join more than 500,000 Charter customers in the company's Alabama and Georgia markets,” Apodaca added.
The terms of the agreement entails Charter to ensure a seamless transition for customers from the former Windjammer cable operations in Fort Benning, GA; Fort Payne, AL; and Cullman, AL.
Company sources at Charter also revealed that there are plans to broadly deploy video-on-demand and HD programming, besides providing faster Internet speeds. Also, there are plans to deploy enhanced services already launched in nearby Charter markets to benefit area businesses.
TMCnet recently reported that Charter Communications announced plans to launch Big Ten Network’s (BTN) BTN2Go, a live 24/7 multiplatform extension of BTN. Charter will also be debuting BTN in homes and businesses in many Charter markets outside Big Ten Conference markets where BTN has previously not been available.
