Sipera, Westcon Team to Provide VoIP and Unified Communications Security Solutions

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Sipera Systems has announced an initiative with Westcon Group to provide comprehensive voice over Internet protocol (VoIP)/unified communications (UC) security solutions customized for education, healthcare and finance.

Sipera Systems (News - Alert) is a company offering real-time UC security, while Westcon Group is a specialty distributor in networking, security, mobility and convergence for prominent technology vendors. The companies are working together to provide deployable solutions for resellers addressing enterprise customers.

In a release, Sipera officials said that this latest initiative was made possible by the existing distribution partnership that supports Westcon’s network of resellers and integrators developing solutions for target verticals using company’s solutions and appliances.

Dean Roth, vice president for sales, central US, at Sipera, said that by working with Westcon and its extensive network of resellers and integrators, “we can jointly provide the customized, cost effective UC security solutions that protect users and deliver granular logging and archiving to satisfy records retention and communications monitoring requirements.”

Duncan Potter (News - Alert), chief marketing officer of Westcon Group, said that Westcon has been working hard to educate its resellers about the efficiencies that UC applications present, but also why it is so important to make sure these applications are secure. He added, “Sipera is a leader in this area and we are pleased to have them included in our SecurityPoint (News - Alert) program.”

The joint solutions enable protection against denial of service attacks, eavesdropping, and toll fraud, and also reconnaissance attacks and spoofing that lead to social engineering, vishing, SWATing, ID theft and similar criminal activity, according to companies’ officials.

In addition, the solutions also enable pandemic planning, business continuity and remote teleworker capabilities; compliance with HIPAA and patient privacy requirements in healthcare; targeted security architectures that meet FERPA privacy requirements in education; and encryption and privacy compliance that satisfy PCI DSS, GLBA and other mandates in financial services.

Real-time UC security and VoIP security solutions, the Sipera UC-Sec products, simplify and protect next-generation communications over any network to any device. The UC-Sec solutions are backed by the vulnerability research of VIPER Lab, and provide threat protection, policy enforcement, access control and privacy in a single appliance.

“Sipera’s VIPER Lab security consulting expertise spans enterprise and campus-wide security assessments, VoIP and UC penetration testing and also security architecture consultation,” said Potter.

By offering these services through Westcon’s network of resellers and integrators, company is providing complete solutions that safeguard critical communications, said Potter, adding that this is an “ideal partnership that matches our networking, convergence, security and mobility expertise with Sipera's UC security expertise.”
