RBC Offers Conferencing Services for Small Businesses

Banking has come a long way since the system was first invented. What started out as merchants making grain loans to farmers and traders around 2000BC eventually evolved into a network where people can store their money, get loans, etc. Recently, the system has changed further with the introduction of mobile banking. Now, you can deposit checks, move money around and pay your bills entirely from your mobile device.
While we have undoubtedly come a long way in terms of banking and technology, one bank is looking to go even further. The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) has recently teamed up with embedded video technology company Vidyo (News - Alert) to bring flexible and immersive remote video chat to its offerings. RBC’s video chat service will be free and is directed at small business customers across North America.
The purpose of the conferencing service is to let small businesses talk face-to-face with their banker from anywhere in the world, on any device. This should help them connect with their bank advisers and be more efficient while on the go.
“We are proud to be the first in our market to offer high-quality video chat for our small business clients. We understand that our customers want to build and maintain a personal, face-to-face long-term relationship with their banker based on trust, especially as they approach important financial decisions that can affect their business both in the short term and in the future,” said Cathy Honor, Senior Vice President, Contact Centers at RBC. “For video conferencing to make sense for us, the solution needs to perform consistently, regardless of where our mobile customers are.”
The RBC is the first bank in Canada to offer remote video banking as a free service to its customers. It deployed the conferencing system earlier this month for its small business clients, but it plans to expand this offering to others in 2017.
So far, the service has received great feedback from those who have used it. RBC customers have stated that the video capabilities have given them a new, natural way to strengthen their relationships with the bank. With Vidyo, the solution is simple, clear and flexible; all videos are high-quality, and communicating with banking advisers is easier than ever.
