Ciena Corporation has unveiled novel packet capabilities for its 6500 Packet-Optical Platform. Network operators are offered an extremely scalable, converged packet-optical offering by the latest E-Suite packet modules for the 6500, which include Ciena’s service aware packet operating system (SAOS).
Operators can now rapidly administer the rising requirement for Ethernet services connectivity in an economical manner with the latest incorporated packet-optical capabilities. Operators can also experience considerable savings with decreased equipment expenses apart from important operational competence enhancements.
Ciena’s established, full-featured SAOS software advantageously utilizes the latest capabilities that, in association with the extensively implemented flagship 6500 from Ciena, will allow Ciena customers to choose from a cohesive portfolio of pure packet networking devices and converged packet-optical platforms to modify their networks as per precise Ethernet service needs irrespective of their operational model.
Customers can also administer their Ethernet services continuously from a solitary administration platform with the help of Ciena’s OneControl Unified Management System, facilitating swift and proficient service turn-up, tracking and troubleshooting.
“The industry has been talking about converged packet optical for years, but unfortunately for operators past attempts have been more like duct tape than true convergence,” said Francois Locoh-Donou, senior vice president of the global products group at Ciena. “By tightly integrating our widely deployed SAOS packet operating system with our industry-leading 6500, we are equipping operators to quickly turn up and deliver customized Ethernet services without compromise. With a purpose-built network infrastructure that is based on a combination of our packet and optical transport capabilities, operators now have a simpler, more cost-effective and more flexible approach to packet service delivery than an all-IP solution.”
Packet switching and traffic management, along with OTN transport, are incorporated by Ciena’s latest E-Suite modules for its 6500 family. Blade-based packet switching modules for small footprint applications and fabric-based packet switching modules for high-bandwidth mesh connectivity are offered. Uninterrupted point-and-click service provisioning for quicker service turn-up, continuous visibility is offered by Ciena’s OneControl Unified Management System, guaranteeing fulfillment of Service Level Agreements. The packet networks from Ciena can also be implemented in association with the organization’s V-WAN Network Services Module.
