Windstream (News - Alert), a provider of advanced network and cloud communications, recently announced it will deliver a Virtual LAN Service (VLS) network for the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. As per the $1.1 million contract, Windstream will subcontract the VLS network to Komplete Systems Integrators, Inc. (KOMPSYS), a successfully graduated 8(a) company and service disabled veteran owned small business.

Windstream's high-quality Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network will power the VLS network which will connect Michigan's DMVA telehealth initiative, featuring 13 local clinics and one medical health center. Windstream's MPLS network allows users to prioritize voice or data through quality of service (QoS) levels, based on their unique business requirements. It enables organizations to exchange data without consuming unnecessary bandwidth at the hub via a "fully-meshed network."

"We're pleased to be involved in the GSA (News - Alert) Mentor-Protégé program and look forward to partnering with KOMPSYS to ensure that the Michigan DMVA receives the network connectivity it needs to elevate patient care," said Mike Magliato, Windstream vice president of government solutions. "Being awarded this contract is much more than just new business for Windstream; it's our opportunity to support the local small business community and give back to our country's honored and distinguished veterans."

Windstream delivers enterprise-class data, voice, network and cloud solutions with security and reliability to businesses nationwide through a single point of contact. The company provides customized data, voice, network and cloud services, including disaster recovery, managed services, networking, VoIP and more—with more than 115,000 fiber route miles across North America.

In related news, United States Air Force has awarded a contract to Windstream to provide Robins Air Force Base with diverse voice communication services. As part of the five-year contract, military bases will be provided with Ethernet and voice services will be provided by Windstream to Robins AFB.
