Redline Communications Offers Rapid Auto Steering Smart Antenna System for Remote Regions

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

Redline Communications (News - Alert) Group is now offering a RAS (Rapid Auto Steering) Smart Antenna System for remote regions.

RAS is a wireless broadband networking system that locates and connects to a network base station. It provides a reliable connection between roving assets, the company said in a recent statement.

It is targeted toward roving RAS-equipped rigs, vehicles and other equipment. It provides wireless connectivity even during long travel on rugged terrain or in a harsh environment, the company said. It is designed for such sectors as: oil and gas, military and utilities.

The RAS quickly finds the closest base station. It employs beam forming and interference mitigation to get a wireless connection, with speeds as fast as 100 Mbps.

By using a solid state antenna, it avoids moving parts, and reduces impact from shock, vibration and inclement weather.

The RAS system is easy to use and allows for multiple applications from a single vehicle or rig, such as: real-time M2M communications, SCADA, high resolution video, Wi-Fi, telephony and backhaul services.

"We engineered RAS to be as simple to use as a mobile phone - you just turn it on and it works," Leigh Chang, associate vice president of product management at Redline Communications, said in a press release. "This zero-touch operation is truly unique, allowing system users to focus on their work, not on setting up a network. Fully solid state with no moving parts, RAS not only instantly and automatically establishes the best possible connection, it auto-provisions itself, setting the appropriate security and quality of service (QoS) for myriad applications ranging from M2M to video, data and voice."

In recent company news, Redline products were selected this year by GCI (News - Alert) Industrial Telecom for an arctic deployment on Alaska's North Slope, according to TMCnet.

In addition, Redline Communications shipped a $2 million order for an industrial wireless system to a customer in the oil and gas sector, according to The Engineer. It will be used for communications among drilling rigs in south Texas and North Dakota, and control offices. Redline predicts its Q2 bookings to be equal to or more than those of Q1, the report adds.
