Sprint Signs Airbiquity as Technology Provider

By Rahul Arora, TMCnet Contributor

Sprint (News - Alert), a company that provides engineering and deploys innovative wireless communications services, recently revealed that Airbiquity, a connected vehicle solutions provider, is now the technology provider for its Sprint Velocity global connected vehicle solution.

According to the terms of the agreement, Sprint will use the Airbiquity Choreo service delivery platform within the Sprint Velocity solution for vehicle manufacturers.

Sprint Velocity encompasses the development, integration and marketing of in-vehicle communications systems. Auto makers can use Sprint Velocity as a complete turnkey solution or on a modular basis to suit their customized needs. With this offering, auto makers have the potential to generate new sources of revenue while economizing on cost, because Sprint can handle the entire mobile integration of the in-car experience. Sprint Velocity also helps build better customer loyalty between the auto provider and the consumer by developing deeper, ongoing relationships with their customers directly and encompasses an integrated set of capabilities that include telematics, ecosystem development, consumer relationship marketing and advanced global network connectivity.

“Sprint is leading the way in helping automakers more easily and affordably provide connected services in their autos and passenger trucks, and we are excited to expand our capability through pivotal relationships with market leaders like Airbiquity,” said Wayne Ward, vice president, Emerging Solutions, Sprint, in a statement. “Airbiquity’s Choreo is a valuable addition to our Sprint Velocity ecosystem, providing a potent technology option for the integration of in-vehicle communication systems.”

“Wireless operators have significant market reach and scale and are playing a pivotal role in the design of connected vehicle solutions,” added John Canali, senior analyst of the Global Automotive Practice at Strategy Analytics (News - Alert). “Combining the scale of wireless operators with the capabilities of category specialists would be very attractive to a number of automotive companies.”
