Sagemcom Partners with ERDF

By Rahul Arora, TMCnet Contributor

Sagemcom (News - Alert) recently announced it has signed a contract with ERDF (Électricité Réseau Distribution France) to provide more than 1.2 million meters and data concentrators for the Linky project. The meters and data concentrators will be manufactured in Dinan.

"The awarding of these contracts is a major step for ERDF and kicks off the industrial stage of the Linky program. Its success is based on ERDF's partnership with all the concerned industry players. With these smart meters, ERDF is part of the digital revolution and supports the deployment of smart grids in France," says Bernard Lassus, Director of ERDF Linky program.

The Linky project aims to improve the distribution of electricity in France with an intelligent metering and communications network. As a result, consumers will be able to better manage their energy consumption and expenses through daily monitoring of their consumption and billing based on actual consumption instead of estimate. The Linky meters play an important role in building a network that can transmit data and perform remote operations to enable integration of renewables, diverse tariff implementation and improved outage management.

"The choice of ERDF to put their trust in Sagemcom for the entire G3 chain rewards the strategic choices we've made over the last years. The significant step forward done with Linky will be observed worldwide and will contribute to the influence of the French smart meter sector. We are proud to be part of and we intend to build on this success to actively participate in the export of this French technology," said Eric Rieul, Deputy CEO of Sagemcom Energy & Telecom.

In related news, Sagemcom has been selected by Vodafone (News - Alert) Germany for the deployment of its 4K UHD 60 FPS set-top box in first half of 2015. Within Sagemcom 4K UHD set-top box range, Vodafone has selected a hybrid IP/satellite Personal Video Recorder, with a removable Hard Disk Drive to offer more scalability to the end-users for the management of their records.
