Expanding its global operations in the African region, Brightstar (News - Alert) Corporation has secured a distribution agreement with HTC. Brightstar is the world's largest specialized wireless distributor and is also a provider of diversified services.

Brightstar will initially distribute five devices, including the HTC (News - Alert) Flyer tablet, HTC Sensation, HTC Wildfire, HTC Desire and HTC ChaCha as part of the agreement. The devices will also be available from multiple operators, including MTN, Airtel (News - Alert), Vodafone/Vodacom, and from a wide range of retailers.  For wireless manufacturers, operators, retailers, government agencies, value added resellers (VARs) and consumers across 51 countries and territories on six continents; Brightstar offers an expansive global services portfolio.

“We are very excited to be expanding local market presence especially given our strong infrastructure and expanding Africa presence," said Arturo Osorio, president of Brightstar Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa in a company press release. "We look forward to working together with HTC as we help them bring their leading portfolio of mobile devices into these key African markets.”

Putting people at the center of the mobile experience, HTC’s priority is to continue developing devices. The company is confident that it will continue to grow its reach and continue to build its brand in the Africa region, leveraging Brightstar's deep industry knowledge and expertise in this field. HTC can deliver powerful and unprecedented devices to its customers in these increasingly important markets, with Brightstar managing distribution.

Recently, the company announced a multi-year service agreement with MTN (News - Alert) South Africa (SA). The deal builds upon Brightstar's recent expansion of operations and services in the region. Brightstar will provide MTN SA with device portfolio management services, supply chain services and OEM engagement services that will encompass the operator's full portfolio of handsets, data devices, laptops and tablets. These services will also enable MTN to continue its focus on improving efficiencies in the supply chain, enhancing the OEM engagements.
