Juniper Networks (News - Alert) and OnLive a provider of on-demand, instant-play video games and applications announced a strategic partnership which entails Juniper to be the exclusive networking provider for OnLive’s network infrastructure.

In a release Steve Perlman, president and CEO of OnLive said, “OnLive’s cloud gaming technology places unprecedented demands on network infrastructure, and Juniper is the only network provider that is able to meet these requirements.”

“Juniper’s performance and security also makes them the ideal partner as OnLive extends the same no-compromise cloud hosting technology to enterprise applications, leapfrogging the entire desktop virtualization industry. A remote desktop experience would be the same as a local desktop experience on any connected device, regardless of the application or content, so users could enjoy all the benefits of desktop virtualization,” Perlman added.

Also both the companies will be developing cloud-based services for the enterprise that will deliver a media-rich, interactive experience to mobile, desktop and presentation devices instantly and securely from anywhere, said officials.

It was revealed that OnLive’s instant response video compression technology and Juniper Networks Junos Pulse (News - Alert) client will enable remote access to desktops and applications from a PC, Mac, iPad, Android tablet or OnLive-enabled TV or monitor.

OnLive is leveraging cloud computing to move computing functions to the network. Its cloud-based video compression technology enhances video gaming at home and on mobile devices as the user’s computer or device is used only for display and input. This same methodology can be used in enterprises to deliver media-rich content and bandwidth-intensive applications securely to mobile desktops and devices via the cloud.

OnLive will be delivering optimum performance, security, reliability and flexibility across both physical and virtual environments for both consumers and enterprise customers with the help of Juniper Networks.

Kevin Johnson (News - Alert), CEO of Juniper Networks stated, “Online gaming is among the most intensive applications in the world where users expect precision and immediate response. It requires a powerful and highly reliable network that doesn’t compromise user experience.”

The end-to-end infrastructure powered by Juniper Networks further enhances the ways by which OnLive’s entertainment applications are created, delivered and consumed at the same time enabling security and robustness for enterprise applications, explained OnLive sources.

Juniper Networks also announced that it has successfully demonstrated a dynamic IP Optical Multilayer network architecture with Telefonica’s (News - Alert) Research and Development division.
