Workshare, a provider of document collaboration software and a Microsoft (News - Alert) Gold Certified Partner, has announced support for Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint foundation 2010 in the next version of Workshare Point.
Officials with Workshare said that the new version will allow users to connect to a SharePoint Online Server hosted by Microsoft, as part of the cloud-based Microsoft's Office 365, delivering a seamless SharePoint user-experience.
For smaller companies or departments looking for a low-cost entry-level solution for secure Web-based collaboration, Workshare Point 1.2 will also work with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010.
"For more than 12 years, customers have relied on Workshare to seamlessly integrate our solutions into Microsoft applications and make document collaboration as easy as possible," said Scott Smull, CEO of Workshare, in a statement.
"SharePoint continues to gain broad acceptance and we are excited to be helping organizations increase SharePoint adoption by making it easier to work in the Microsoft Office environment," said Smull.
Company officials said that Workshare Point 1.2 will provide-ability to preview Outlook messages stored in SharePoint from within Outlook; support for site collections, including support for subsites; a new SharePoint e-mail folder pane to help improve filing, synchronization and auto refresh when moving content between Outlook and SharePoint and improved auto-profiling which automatically catches metadata from documents and emails and pre-populates the profile pop-up.
According to company officials, the new Workshare Point release will also enhance access to Microsoft's FAST (News - Alert) search functionality and be easily accessible in Outlook and the Workshare Point User Interface.
Recently, Workshare released Workshare Protect 7 to help reduce the number of times people accidentally e-mail documents with hidden comments and suggested edits not intended for public distribution.
Workshare Protect 7 works within Microsoft Office, allowing users to easily remove confidential information (metadata) hidden within documentation, financial filings and other business documents.
