xG Deploys Field Testing of xMax Mobile Broadband VoIP

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

xG Technology announced the introduction of a mobile VoIP broadband phone system. The company operates on unlicensed spectrum and is fully IP end-to-end. This is expected to change the network economics for operators and will provide consumers with mobile VoIP, value priced mobile data, fixed VoIP and internet service all supported by the same network.

xG technology developed a strategy for not using major national carriers as they still employ legacy technologies and networks. Although the company’s offering can work in any wired or wireless environment it launched mobile broadband VoIP as a first vertical communication product known as xMax.

The xMax family of mobile VoIP, fixed VoIP and broadband Internet services are included among xG’s first commercial product line. The solution is a standalone Wide Area Mobile VoIP network. These networks consist of a product suite of base stations, mobile switching centers (MSCs), mobile phones and modems.

This network of hardware and intellectual property delivers low-cost mobile and fixed VoIP and data broadband service operating in the ISM band (902-928 MHz). xG Technology (News - Alert) is introducing the xMax product suite via select partners and carriers including wireless operators, cable companies, and CLECs. These firms can deploy voice and data services which will feature unlimited calling plans, international calling at low VoIP rates and also bundle options including unlimited home phone service and broadband Internet.

xMax network products are powered by xG Flash Signal which is a patented physical and MAC layer technology. This is capable of delivering long range mobile VoIP services which do not depend on existing networks.

The company started deploying base stations and field testing is underway by local carriers. A contract with Swiss-based Treco International will enable local carriers to lease equipment instead of buying it hence saving a lot on their capital expenses.

xG Technology is an IP-centric developer of advanced innovative technologies which enhances wired and wireless communication. These technologies minimize capital investment and operating costs required for deploying broadband wireless networks, said the company.

The company revealed that its portfolio of product encompasses VoIP system design, Physical Layer (PHY) and Media Access Control (MAC) layer protocols. It has entered into an agreement with Townes Telecommunications for nationwide deployment in the Townes plans to form a consortium of independent telcos for this deployment purpose. xG said that its final agreement terms are under discussion.
