Technology Partnership Announced by Alfresco and Ephesoft
July 05, 2011
The power of content capture technology, as well as the enhancement of collaboration and productivity, will be unlocked with the technology partnership of Alfresco and Ephesoft. Alfresco’s superior enterprise content management, or ECM platform, will be used for the solution. Alfresco is an open platform for social content management, while Ephesoft is a cloud-ready capture company.
At most enterprises, capture technologies have been the least automated business processes. Apart from substantial labor costs, this has also resulted in huge inefficiencies. An automated workflow element will be added by ECM tools like Alfresco’s. This will help to capture processes. Documents that have been captured electronically via the use of imaging will be also provided improved intelligence.
The industry CMIS open standard is used for this integration which is based on Alfresco Enterprise 3.4 and Ephesoft Enterprise 2.2. The document capture is managed by Ephesoft via scanners, email and fax. Ephesoft creates searchable PDFs with metadata tags. Documents are “learned,’ as part of Ephesoft’s processing. These documents can therefore be automatically classified and separated from other documents saving labor, expense and time. Further business process automation with Alfresco is enabled as key data elements are also read and saved.
In a release, John Newton, Chief Technology Officer of Alfresc, said, “We are very excited to integrate Ephesoft into the Alfresco Platform to enable customers, partners and developers to unlock the power of our proven content repository. By utilizing the benefits of open source, the range of possible applications for content and capture optimization is infinite from mortgage loan processing, to the digitalization of medical records to the preservation of historical and cultural documents to accounts payable processes.”
According to Newton, the organization’s growth is furthered with this partnership. As compared to proprietary offerings currently on the market, intelligent document capture technology will be now available at a fraction of the price.
